Classes
We have three classes at East Haddon Primary School:
Reception and Year 1: Red Class (Mrs Banks and Mrs Truslove)
Year 2 and 3: Green Class (Mrs Gibbins)
Years 4-6: Blue Class (Mr Wilkinson and Mrs Pickles)
We employ a variety of teaching styles throughout the school. Children will at times be taught individually or in small groups. Children may be grouped by ability when this is appropriate - such groups tend to be selected for particular tasks. It is also important to ensure that at times, classes, which contain more than one year group are taught in year groups. For other activities children will be taught as a class. At all times we endeavour to ensure that our children are faced with challenging tasks, which are of a worthwhile nature. This variety of approaches, using the best method for the situation, is entirely consistent with the latest reports from the government and Ofsted. In our case it is not necessary to return to class teaching as it has never been abandoned. We believe in the traditional approaches to spelling and tables, requiring our children to learn both by heart for regular tests. Equally, children are expected to learn poems and scripts by heart, for concerts and assemblies.
